The Power of Love

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. - John 13:34 (NIV)

We were recently greeted by our granddaughter, Blair, who proclaimed, “I love you, Nana and Papa!” She can confidently state that because she has experienced love. Since birth, she has received consistent warmth, affection, and support from family, friends, and caregivers. The love she has learned and continues to learn in her childhood, she will carry with her throughout her relationship now and in the future.

In John 13:34, Jesus commands us to love one another as He has loved us. This profound love, exemplified by Jesus, is the foundation upon which we build our ability to love others. Just as Blair’s understanding of love is rooted in the affection she receives, our capacity to love stems from the love we have received from Jesus. His selfless, unconditional love equips us to extend that same love to others.

For those who have been hurt and struggle to love again, Jesus' love serves as a healing balm. Through His example and grace, we find the strength to open our hearts once more. The journey of healing involves embracing Jesus' love, which reassures us of our worth and the endless possibilities of love. It teaches us that no matter how deep our wounds are, His love can restore and renew our spirits, allowing us to give and receive love again.

Love is a powerful force that shapes our lives and relationships. Whether we are learning to love for the first time or rediscovering love after pain, Jesus's love guides and sustains us. His command to love one another is not just a directive but an invitation to experience the transformative power of His love in our lives.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the boundless love You have shown us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to embody this love in our daily lives, loving others as You have loved us. We pray for healing and the courage to love again for those who have been hurt. May Your love be a constant source of strength and hope in our hearts. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
