“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid." John 14:27 NLT
In 1978, President Jimmy Carter hosted the Camp David Accords talks between Egyptian President Muhammad Anwar El-Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem. These talks led to the signing of the Sinai Peace Treaty. While there have been some very tense moments, the treat has remained intact.
While this treaty and others since are significant in the peace process, it remains an uneasy peace. Like the cold war between the United States and Russia, while perhaps not in actual armed conflict, distrust and tensions still exist. We know from world history that the peace humankind brokered is uncertain. There will likely always be issues of nationalism, long-held grudges born, and easily bruised egos in worldly peace.
There is only one source of true peace–Jesus Christ. In him, we need not fear broken treaties or the nervousness of human agreements in Christ’s lasting peace. In him, we find calmness and restfulness born from his pure love. We can enjoy true freedom from fear and angst in his promise.
God, we are thankful for the peace the world cannot give found in you. You offer us tranquility and freedom in your love. Please help us to be your messengers of peace to the world. Let everything we say and do this day show others the restfulness that can be found only in you. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
