"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
Life is full of decisions—some small, some life-altering. We often find ourselves at a crossroads, uncertain about which direction to take. In his poem The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost describes a traveler who chooses the less-traveled path, reflecting on how that choice makes all the difference. While many interpret the poem as an encouragement to embrace unconventional choices, when viewed through the lens of faith, it reveals something even deeper: the assurance that God knows which path is best for each of us.
Trusting in the Lord means we don’t have to rely solely on our own understanding. His wisdom surpasses our own, and when we submit to Him, He ensures that our journey aligns with His purpose. Sometimes, the road He leads us to may not seem like the easiest or most logical choice, but in hindsight, we will see how it was part of His greater plan. The "path less traveled" may not always seem appealing—it might require courage, obedience, and stepping out in faith—but when we follow where He leads, we can be confident that we are walking in His perfect plan. This isn’t always an immediate realization—sometimes, God’s guidance unfolds over time, requiring patience and trust as we take each step in faith.
God’s guidance isn’t just for the big moments—it’s also present in the daily choices we make. Whether it’s deciding on a career, handling relationships, or even navigating seemingly small decisions, He invites us to lean on His wisdom. However, the more we practice obedience in the small things, the stronger our faith becomes for the bigger decisions ahead.
Whatever crossroads you face today, instead of relying solely on your reasoning or choosing what seems easiest, pause and seek God. One way to discern His leading is through prayer, studying His Word, and seeking wise counsel from those who follow Him. Sometimes, God’s answers don’t come immediately, but He is always working. Even when His direction seems unclear, we can trust that He is shaping our path. In these times, pray for wisdom, listen for His guidance, and trust that He is making your path straight. Though the road may not always be smooth, walking in obedience to Him will always bring greater purpose and fulfillment. Sometimes, He leads us in unexpected directions, but in time, we will see the difference it makes.
Lord, we surrender our decisions to You. Help us not to lean on our own understanding but to trust Your wisdom. Teach us patience in the waiting and obedience in the journey, knowing that Your timing is always perfect. Grant us discernment to recognize Your leading through Your Word, through prayer, and the wise counsel of other believers. Lead us down the path that is right for us, even when it is not the obvious choice. Give us the faith to follow wherever You guide. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
