Victory

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. - 1 Corinthians 15:57 NIV

It seems we don't hear the word victory much anymore. During WWII, there were victory gardens, ships, medals, and ribbons. The idea of victory helped unite this country and its allies in a particularly dark period of world history.

As Christians, we don't even use that word much anymore. But through Jesus Christ, we are still achieving victory. Each day he helps us to overcome sin and ultimately to gain eternal life in defeating death. Verses 54-55 remind us, “Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

Today, let us celebrate the victory promised in Jesus Christ. There is nothing we face that is too great for God. Therefore, as Christians, we should reclaim the word victory into our vocabulary.

By way of prayer, I am offering the words to the great gospel song by Eugene M. Bartlett, written in 1939, "Victory in Jesus."

Verse 1

I heard an old, old story how a Savior came from glory,

How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me;

I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood’s atoning,

Then I repented of my sins and won the victory

Verse 2

I heard about His healing, of His cleansing pow’r revealing

How he made the lame to walk again and caused the blind to see;

And then I cried, “Dear Jesus, come and heal my broken spirit,”

And some sweet day I’ll sing up there the song of victory.

Verse 3

I heard about a mansion he has built for me in glory,

And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea;

About the angels singing and the old redemption story,

And some sweet day I’ll sing up there the song of victory.

Chorus

O victory in Jesus, my Savior, forever!

He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood;

He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him.

He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood.

Victory & Blessings,

Pastor Tim
