But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:7 NIV
Frequently, I'll read or hear something that triggers a song. Today, it is a pop song from Katrina & The Waves, "Walking on Sunshine." Here's the chorus.
Now I'm walking on sunshine, whoa!
I'm walking on sunshine, whoa!
I'm walking on sunshine, whoa!
And don't it feel good?
Hey, all right now!
And don't it feel good?
Hey, yeah!
Light illuminates the darkness. Walking into a dark room, we instinctively reach for the switch. But sunshine does more; in its rays, we experience the light but also enjoy the sensation of its warmth. Think of those long winter days with overcast skies and how our attitudes differ when the sun shines. Though the temperatures are crisp, the sun's power strangely warms us.
Through Jesus' offering, we experience spiritual light and warmth–vitamin D for our souls. We are walking not just "in" but "on" sunshine. It is a visceral, inexplicably intense feeling that we become one with the sun (Son). The Holy Spirit empowers us and brings us into communion with others of the same mind.
Though Christ shines for everyone, not all recognize his fantastic gift; some still live in the cold darkness of sin, some out of rebellion, others because they do not know. As people who experience the wonderful feeling of Christ's sunshine, we know it's something too good to keep to ourselves; we want to share it with those who have not heard and those who resist the good news of Jesus Christ.
Father, thank you for the sunshine of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. Please help us be your witnesses to those who acknowledge you as their Savior. We pray this in Jesus' name.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
