Rest

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 NIV

Have you ever felt simply exhausted? Not just physically tired but in mind and spirit. The demands on you seem to come from every direction; work, bills, relationships, and sometimes unnecessary and unrealistic pressures we place on ourselves through overcommitment. We can juggle all those balls for so long before we become weary. The weight of everything becomes too much, and then we suffer burnout.

During these, we may feel too tired to pray! But in those times when we feel the least like praying are the time, it is most important to reach out to God. When we do, we are guaranteed peace and rest from all our labors. In that pause, we need to listen to God. He may well be telling us to slow down. His desire for us is not to lead stressed-out, burned-out lives, but to place our trust in him and find balance.

God, we thank you for rest. In your sacred scriptures, you give us instructions about the importance of rest. Despite this, we often allow ourselves to get become overloaded and exhausted. We come to you this Labor Day with all our burdens and lay them at your feet. Please help us learn to slow down and find the peace and joy that comes in trusting you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings!

Pastor Tim
