"Jesus said to them again, 'Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.'” John 20:21 NRSV
When we send something, we do it with purpose. It doesn't matter whether we are mailing a letter to someone, writing an email or text, or requesting someone to pick up a gallon of milk for us at the grocery store. There is always a reason, or motivation, in the sending.
God the Father had a specific reason for sending his Son. The world was broken, in a mess, and desperately in need of saving. God the Creator sent a Redeemer in Jesus' Christ. When Jesus returned to his Father, he sent the Holy Spirit as our Sanctifier.
Jesus also did, and continues to do, something else -- he sends us. In peace, he sends us into the world to carry the good news. We don't just go into the world each day; we are sent intentionally and with a purpose. Not only are we sent in peace, but we also carry the peace with us and deliver the message that brings peace. The news of Christ that can heal our fractured world.
Father God, thank you for sending your Son Jesus Christ to the world and the Holy Spirit into our lives. We give thanks for the peace and hope found in your relationship with us. As you send us out this day, please help us to share this message with others. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Peace,
Pastor Tim
