Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8 NIV
Moses has just died, and Joshua has some big shoes to fill. God has given the green light for Israel to enter Cannan after their forty-year pilgrimage. But, before that can happen, God wants to have a few words with Joshua on leadership.
God didn't send him to school for an MBA or instruct him to read How to Win Friends and Influence People. Yes, I realize those weren't things yet, but my point is God gave Joshua the essentials, 1.) meditate on the Law always, and 2.)do what it says. Let it be your managerial guide. God follows, "THEN (my emphasis) you will be prosperous and successful."
Sometimes, okay, maybe often, we are guilty of overcomplicating things. It is far more straightforward. Do we want to be successful in our families and work? Do we want to see our church ministries thrive? It is back to basics, read our Bibles so we know and understand what is there, follow the righteous examples, and obey God's commands.
Notice, I never said it was easy. God didn't promise that, nor will I be foolish enough to do so. We do have a promise, though; when we follow God's instructions, he will be with us through the journey, directing our feet into the THEN.
Almighty Father, we thank you for your Word. Within its divinely inspired pages, you have given us your Law and stories of how to live. You sent your Son as our example of holiness and the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us. Help us as we meditate on your Word to understand and become the Word through our words and actions. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
