Asking for Help

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

As I mentioned before, I struggle with higher math; algebra, calculus, geometry, and statistics. To complete my degree, I had to pass a business statistics class. The gentleman teaching the course was a gruff former merchant marine who had served in WWII. Not liking to ask for help anyway, I was intimidated by this professor. However, I knew I needed help, and he could give me the assistance I desperately needed. Once I worked up the courage to see him, I was surprised to find he was a very nice person who cared for his students and wanted to help. There had been no basis for my embarrassment or fear of rejection; those were things I had projected into the situation.

Sometimes we may be hesitant to confess our sins and seek God's help. We may be embarrassed or think that God will not forgive us. Any insecurities and doubts we have, Satan will twist to his benefit. He doesn't want us to be forgiven but to live in guilt and misery. However, we know that God is faithful and just waiting only for us to ask for help. We only need earnestly repent of our sin and seek to do better, and God will forgive, washing away our sins.

God, we give you thanks for your faithfulness. In your grace and justice, you forgive our sins and make us pure. We confess we are sinners and ask your forgiveness for the sins we commit knowingly and unknowingly. Please help us this day as we strive to live more righteously. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Peace,

Pastor Tim
