Be Still

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalms 46:10 NIV

What does it mean to “be still”? We all know that there is speaking and listening in dialogue. It is the same in our communication with God. It is in the times that we are quiet that we hear God. It may also be interpreted as the command not to worry; God has the situation in control. In modern parlance, “he has our back.”

Along with being still, we should accept that he is in charge, “know that I am God.” This acceptance is the exercise of our faith. Sometimes we find it hard to see God in a given situation, but with our faith comes the assurance that he is in control. He holds dominion over heaven and earth — yes, even over these artificial, division lines we call nations. He has it all in his reign, don’t worry!

God, we come to you today in stillness. We relinquish all of our worries and fears to you. Let us hear you and feel your presence and peace in the silence. We acknowledge that you are God; there is none other like you. We give you thanks for your endless love and protection. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
