Called By My Name

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

In addition to celebrating Kirk and Jordan's birthdays, we observe two other joyous days as an adoptive family. The day the boys first joined our family, the other when the adoption became legal, and they took our last names. While we were mom and dad to them from that first day, society officially recognized us as a family on that "naming day."

God, in his grace, recognizes us as his children even before we accept his love. But something special happens when we acknowledge him as our Father. As part of joining this new family, we receive a new name–Christian. This new status gives us the privilege of calling on our Father anytime. Whenever things go poorly in our personal lives, community, nation, or world, we can seek his face, and he will forgive and heal.

Father God, thank you for your adoption and your Son, our Savior and brother, Jesus Christ, who offers us salvation. Please help us to carry our new name with courage and boldness, sharing the message of grace with others. Remembering you have called us by your name, may we confidently, humbly, and unabashedly seek forgiveness and healing for ourselves, each other, and our world. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
