Commit to the Lord

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Proverbs 16:3 NIV

The Bible is full of stories, poems, and songs of people in different times and places. From their examples, good and bad, we learn how God desires us to conduct our lives so we may enjoy them more fully. The book of Proverbs is a collection of wisdom literature, and while it contains no certainties, it has good practical advice. If we live according to its moral direction, there is far more likely life, although perhaps not easier, will be better as we live into the life God plans for us.

Today's scripture invites us to take the talents and skills God has given us, whatever our work may be, and use them for his glory. How we conduct ourselves and our interactions with others can be a marvelous testimony of Christ's dwelling within us to others.

The scripture also promises God will establish our plans when we see our work as a service to God, instead of just a job, our perspective changes. We are no longer plying a trade or working at a career, but we are in ministry. So those harrowing times at work, the impossible deadlines, and that problematic person may become excellent ministry opportunities.

God, thank you for helping us in everything we do. Be with us today in all we do, establish our plans. Let our lives serve as an example to others, and let all we do magnify and glorify you. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
