Commit Your Works

Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.

Proverbs 16:3

As a rule, I'm pretty organized. My task list is tied to my calendar, which I can get to on my phone and computer. Where I find I fail is putting items on my to-do list. I think of things, but somehow they don't make it from my brain to being added. My intentions are good, but without proper follow-through, things fail to get done.

Today's scripture talks about God's guidance. Turn our reliance away from us to Him. This means moving from the importance of the temporal to the spiritual. When we shift that thinking and dedicate our endeavors to God, he will ensure success. There are no limitations on the types of work. Our employment, our volunteering, the things we fill our days with are all part of our works. Everything provides an opportunity for us to witness God's glory, in our actions in our words.

While organization tools can be extremely helpful in keeping us organized, God should be our organizer. When we commit our works to him and relinquish control, nothing essential will be overlooked. We need to be prepared, though, that God’s priorities may be different than ours and be open to the changes this means.

God, we give you thanks for the Holy Spirit as our guide. We seek your guidance today for what you would have us do. We are setting aside our calendars and to-do lists and pray you to establish our thoughts. These bodies, the breath we draw, are your gifts. We ask you to use them as you will. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Blessings!

Pastor Tim
