Confidence

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NIV

When we think of confidence, other words likely come to mind, such as assurance, boldness, and composure. Some folks may have struggled with these words. Perhaps they've been told so frequently they can't; fearfully, they've persuaded themselves it's true. Yet, others may have little or no self-doubt assured they will succeed in everything they undertake. However, most of us are probably somewhere in-between, confident in some but not all areas.

Today's verse assures us we can be confident in approaching God's throne of grace. We do not need to fear rejection or failure, only success. How do we know this is true? The prior verse assures us, "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin." Jesus gets us! Whatever we are experiencing, he understands because he, too, was human. Jesus experienced temptation and overcame it, and because of this, he can help us overcome it too. There is no sin we've committed or struggle we're facing that Christ is unwilling to extend his mercy and grace.

Father, we give thanks that we can approach your throne with confidence. There we can experience forgiveness and peace through your mercy and grace. We praise your Son, our high priest, Jesus Christ, who listens and understands our weaknesses and intercedes on our behalf. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
