“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” 1 John 5:14 (NIV)
Have you ever hesitated to ask for something, unsure if you’d be heard? In our human relationships, confidence can waver. Misunderstandings, mistakes, and broken trust often take time to mend. But with God, restoration is immediate. Because of Jesus, the door to his presence is flung wide open, welcoming us in—not timidly, but boldly.
Imagine the confidence of a child running into a parent’s arms, with the absolute knowledge that they will be embraced. That’s the assurance we have with our Heavenly Father. There’s no hesitation, no uncertainty. He hears us, he sees us, and he welcomes us to bring everything—our praises, our worries, and our requests—before him.
Now, let’s imagine that same child asking for something absurd—demanding unlimited candy for dinner, or insisting they never need to go to bed again. The loving parent listens, but they know such requests wouldn’t be good for the child. In the same way, God hears us, but his wisdom ensures that what he grants aligns with his perfect will, not just what we might selfishly or shortsightedly desire.
Because of Christ, our prayers can shift from self-focused wishes to Christ-centered petitions—ones that reflect his love, wisdom, and purpose. As we align our hearts with him, our desires become shaped by his, and we can trust that he hears and answers according to what is truly best.
So today, take a step of faith. Pray with boldness. Don’t hold back—speak freely to your Gracious Father. And as you do, pause to reflect:
Do my prayers reflect God’s will or my own desires?
How can I grow in aligning my heart with Christ today?
Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me to approach You with confidence. Thank you for restoring what was broken and calling me to seek you boldly. Align my heart with your will so that my prayers reflect your love and wisdom. I trust that you hear me and that you are working all things for good. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
