Deliverance

But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. Psalms 59:16 NIV

In this song, David recalls a time earlier in his young life when he was threatened by his enemies seeking to destroy him. He begins by petitioning God for assistance, "Deliver me." He follows this with a pronouncement of his faith that God will deliver, "You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress." He concludes with praise for God’s answer to his prayer.

While our deliverance stories may not be as dramatic as David’s, we have all experienced God's deliverance. As we hear David's joyful reaction, we may pause and reflect on our experiences of God's salvation. Did we give him the praise he so rightly deserved? Did we say thanks at all? Or did we just take it for granted? God continues to help us because he loves us and cares for us as his children. However, like David, we should follow our deliverance with heartfelt and enthusiastic songs of praise for our rescue?

Precious loving, compassionate, and delivering God, we want to give you thanks. While we may not be able to write you a song and sing like David, we can offer you our wholehearted and genuine thanks for your steadfast love. Forgive us for those times we have failed to express our gratitude for all your gifts. We pray in the name of your Son and our Savior, Jesus. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
