Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2 NIV
There is really something special about that word devoted. It is more than a simple attachment, but it conveys deep love and dedication. When we are devoted to someone, we will do anything in our power for them. In accepting Christ, we acknowledge God's devotion to us and pledge ours in return. One of the ways we demonstrate that commitment is in conversation with Him, our prayers.
As praying people, we are to be watchful. Aware of the world around us through the eyes of Jesus. With that vision, we notice people and situations requiring prayer. We see those who are addicted, dying, homeless, hungry, sick, and traumatized. We pray for our leaders, our nation, and our world.
We praise God for all he has done in the past, present, and future. As awareness comes into our minds, God is already at work even before the words are uttered. So, we can pray in complete confidence, knowing that God can do all things.
Compassionate and caring God, we thank you for your devotion to us. May we show that same devotion in our prayers to you. Open our eyes to the world around us, that we are aware of the people and situations requiring prayer. We give you thanks for all you've done, are doing, and will do. In Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Shalom,
Pastor Tim
