Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. - 2 Timothy 2:15 NIV
As children, probably all of our parents taught us to always do everything to the best of our abilities. Perhaps, especially when it was something we did not particularly enjoy. They said, "anything worth doing is worth doing well." Still, if we are honest with ourselves, it is hard mustering enthusiasm for tasks that we feel inadequate.
Paul's instruction to Timothy had similar intentions but in this case, what we are doing is for God. We need to show up ready to work, redeemed by Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit. As his representatives, his disciples -- we must proclaim the gospel of freedom and truth with boldness.
That does not mean we may always feel comfortable with what God asks us to do. Sometimes, okay, often, he pushes us beyond our comfort zone. But, it is an opportunity for us to grow in faith. When we take those first steps, committing ourselves to do our best, God will help us overcome any feelings of inadequacy, giving us strength and confidence.
Precious God, we give thanks for the invitation to grow in faith. Please help us be attentive to your voice, discern what you ask, and be quick to respond with eager hearts and hands. We know that what you ask may be uncomfortable, but help us recall the spiritual gifts you have already given and replace our doubt with confidence. Please help us as we do our best. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
