Endurance

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34 NIV

I have a good friend Nancy who has run many marathon races. Her target is to run sixty marathons by the age of sixty. I stand in awe of her dedication and perseverance. I think we can all appreciate that you don't wake up one day and run 26.2 miles; there are miles and miles of training to build up endurance. But part of your training includes giving your body time to rest.

God, though requires no such rest. From the creation of the world, he has been doing good, and he has never stopped. Yes, he rested on the seventh day, but only from creating; I'm pretty sure he was busy doing other things. His love for us endures forever. It started before our knowledge began and continues for infinity. As Buzz Lightyear said in Toy Story, "To infinity and beyond!" (If that phrase were appropriate for anyone, it would be for God.) God is the master of many things, including endurance.

God, we give you thanks for your many blessings. Most of all, we give thanks for who you are and your endurance. In love, you created this world and placed us on it, and in love, you continue to bless us. Your love extends beyond time and dimension to forever. Thank you for your Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit, who serve as example and guide. Prepare us for the day when we are joined forever with you. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Pastor Tim
