"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." Psalms 107:1 NIV
I still remember my grandparent’s fiftieth wedding anniversary. They were quiet folks who didn't want a big fuss but were finally persuaded to have a small party at their home. From near and far, friends and family came throughout the day to pay tribute to their love for each other. When my grandfather went into a care facility with dementia, he would be confused over who people were, but he always remembered my grandmother. They went on to spend another wonderful twelve years together before the passing of my grandfather. Theirs was a love that celebrated a lifetime.
Our mortality binds love on earth, but such constraints do not bind God’s love; his love for us endures forever. He loved us before we were knit in our mother's wombs through eternity. Before we became even a thought in our parents’ minds, extending back to Adam and Eve, God loved us and will continue to love us. Because he wants us to live with him forever in heaven, he provided us with a plan of salvation through his only Jesus. What a testament to God's love for us.
Father, we give you thanks for your eternal love. We are grateful for the sacrifice of Jesus so we may have eternal life with you. We give thanks to the Holy Spirit that comforts, guides, and encourages us. Please help us to remember the depths and the cost of your love. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
