Eternal Rock

“Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.” —Isaiah 26:4 (NIV)

Rocks seem permanent. They anchor mountains, shape coastlines, and mark our histories. But even rocks change. In New Hampshire, the Old Man of the Mountain stood for generations—a granite profile naturally etched into Cannon Mountain, revered as a symbol of strength and identity. But in 2003, it collapsed. Despite efforts to preserve it, time and weather had their way. The rock face that once looked eternal was gone.

We all have landmarks we thought would last—relationships, institutions, even parts of ourselves. But time wears on everything.

Unlike the Old Man, God does not erode. He is not shaped by storms or worn down by time. Political tides or cultural shifts do not sway him.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” —Hebrews 13:8

His steadfastness is not static—it is love in motion, grace that meets us anew each day.

In a world where everything changes—where even the strongest structures fall—we need something more than temporary strength. We need a refuge that holds. A foundation that doesn’t crack. A presence that doesn’t fade.

God is that presence. He is our Eternal Rock. We can trust Him not because life is predictable, but because He is faithful. Not because we are strong, but because He is steadfast. We trust in God’s grace, leaning into His divine constancy, not our human certainty.

So, as people of faith, we stand on that Rock. Not on our own certainty, but on His constancy. Not on our own endurance, but on His eternal nature.

Eternal God, in a world of shifting ground, you are our steady place. When familiar landmarks fall and trusted structures give way, you remain. You are our refuge, our strength, our Rock eternal. Help us to trust—not in what we see, but in who you are. Shape our faith not by the weather of circumstance, but by the rhythm of your grace. Let your steadfast love be the ground beneath our feet and the song within our hearts. Amen.

Peace & Grace,

Pastor Tim
