And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:22-23 NRSV
As a kid, our family would occasionally go to the Hostess Outlet Store. While the purpose of the trip.was to buy discounted bread, I would wander the aisles looking at the Ring Dings, Twinkies, Ding Dongs, and Chocolate Cupcakes, anything filled with sugary, cream-filled goodness. While I don't remember my parents buying many of those things, in my teen years, I consumed enough to make up for whatever I missed as a youngster.
The presence of Christ in each of us is that goodness that fills each one of us. Without him, we are not a church, simply a gathering of people. Unlike the sugary sweets that were so unhealthy yet appealing, through the infilling of the Holy Spirit, we are transformed. Replaced is the temporary satisfaction and unwholesomeness of sin with a hunger for righteousness.
Most Holy and Awesome God, we thank you for sending your Son to deliver us from sin. We praise you for filling us with your presence that gives us the strength to stand against evil. Help us today as we go into the world to be your people, and that all our actions would glorify you. In Christ's name, we pray.
Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
