"Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy." Micah 7:18 NIV
Not long after our creation, not content to worship the one true God, humans began to create other gods. They would pray and offer gifts to these artificial deities in hopes of something happening, for example, fertile fields or victory over an enemy. But these gods did not provide forgiveness. Only God, the Lord of all, can do that.
God offers forgiveness and salvation because he loves us and desires us to be in covenant with him. However, this relationship must be pure and righteous, which cannot happen without our repentance. God stands ready to pardon our transgressions; we simply need to ask earnestly and commit to doing better.
God, we are thankful for your forgiveness. You not only want to forgive us, but you delight in showing your mercy. You do this simply because you care for us as your children, your inheritance. We confess we are quick to sin and hesitant to ask for pardon. Please forgive us for those sins we have committed and help us as we work to do better. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Blessings, Pastor Tim
