Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” - Matthew 9:37-38 NIV
Many years ago, in the days before mechanical farm equipment, planting and reaping were done the old-fashioned way with back-breaking labor. Farm families were often large to help with these tasks. Schools were even structured around these seasons so the kids would be available during these peak periods. Even then, it was not uncommon to bring in extra seasonal workers to help. A tradition that continues to this day, with an estimated 1.15 million hired farmworkers in the US, many for seasonal work.*
Looking at everything happening in the world today, I believe we can all agree the field is ripe for picking. The message of hope, love, and redemption is in dire need. The harvest is too much for any one church or denomination, but as the single body of Christ working together, we can do much. We need all our hands in ministry together, picking the fruit in our local neighborhoods, cities and towns, counties, states, countries, and nations. But we each need to do our part; we cannot stand idly by for others. We need to pluck souls from Satan's grasp before it is too late before the harvest ends.
God, thank you for the harvest and the privilege of being a worker. Please help your children as we work together to harvest souls. Lord, bless our efforts so we may bring in new workers. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
