Holy Curiosity

“Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you.” — Luke 11:9–10 (CEB)

Soon after we begin to talk, shortly after we learn the word “No,” the first question we ask is “Why?” Anyone who has spent much time around a toddler has heard this. In fact, we’ve heard it so often that we’re tempted to respond with “Because” or “That’s just the way it is.”

But that innate curiosity is a gift. It shows growth, imagination, and a desire to understand. And if we’re honest, we never really stop asking questions. We ask them of others, of ourselves, and certainly of God. We have a natural yearning to fill the void — intellectually, emotionally, spiritually. Today’s verse gives us the promise of answers.

Jesus’ words in Luke aren’t a command to stop questioning; they’re an invitation to bring those questions to God. And God doesn’t respond with “Because” or “That’s just the way it is.” No — Jesus says, “Ask… seek… knock…” These are not passive verbs. They describe a life of engagement, curiosity, and holy persistence.

And the promise attached to them is not that we will receive everything we ask for, or that every door will open exactly as we expect. The promise is that God responds. God meets us in the asking. God honors the seeking. God opens doors that lead us deeper into grace, wisdom, and trust.

Throughout our spiritual journey, God continues to answer — sometimes with clarity, sometimes with mystery, sometimes with a nudge, sometimes with a new question that leads us further along the path. But always with presence. Always with love. The God who formed our curious minds is not threatened by our questions. God welcomes them. God uses them to draw us closer.

So today, don’t silence your questions. Bring them. Ask boldly. Seek honestly. Knock with hope. The promise of Jesus is that God is already on the other side of the door — listening, guiding, and opening the way forward.

Holy God, you are the One who invites our questions and meets us in our searching. Give us courage to ask, patience to seek, and hope to keep knocking. Open our hearts to the answers you offer — in your time, in your wisdom, and in your love. Lead us deeper into trust as we walk this journey with you. Amen.

Peace & Grace,

Pastor Tim
