Immeasurably More

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV)


Like many of you, we have been watching some of the Olympics for the last few days. One of the sports we enjoy watching most is gymnastics. These athletes are fantastic as they precisely execute their routines–handsprings, leaps, and handstands. To us watching, they make it seem so easy, but of course, the gymnast has spent years in training and hours practicing the routines. 


Similarly, our spiritual journey often mirrors the gymnast’s dedication. We, too, strive for precision, endurance, and growth. But beyond our efforts, Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV) reminds us that God operates on a different scale—immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. Just as gymnasts push their limits, we, too, can trust in God’s ability to accomplish infinitely more than we can conceive. 


The miracles performed by the disciples serve as vivid demonstrations of God’s immeasurable power. When we limit God by our finite understanding, we forget that His capacity to bless us exceeds our wildest dreams. Scripture provides clear examples: Peter and John, empowered by Jesus’ authority, healed a lame beggar at the Beautiful Gate of the temple (Acts 3:1-10). Their actions revealed God’s supernatural intervention. Additionally, the disciples cast out unclean spirits, acting as conduits for divine power (Matthew 10:1). Their authority over spiritual forces showcased God’s limitless might.


Furthermore, Acts 2:43 speaks of ‘many wonders and signs’ performed by the disciples. These extraordinary acts testified to God’s presence and ability to accomplish the unimaginable. As Christ’s followers today, we can also tap into this same immeasurable power–we serve the same God, and His grace and power have not diminished. Let us dream audaciously and trust in God’s ability to exceed our expectations.


Heavenly Father, You are the God of immeasurable more. We stand in awe of Your boundless love and power. Today, we surrender our limited expectations and ask for Your extravagant blessings. Expand our faith, enlarge our hearts, and surprise us with Your goodness. May our lives be a testimony to Your immeasurable grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
