"Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up." Proverbs 12:25 NIV
Have you ever had one of those days when you're in a funk? Maybe for no other reason than you woke up feeling that way, but usually it's because we have a lot on our minds. You may try doing things you typically enjoy, but you just can't snap out of that fog. Then you receive that one call, email, or text that brightens up your whole day. It was that simple word of encouragement you needed to hear at the right time.
There are many scriptures in the Bible that assure us we do not need to be anxious. We know and believe it to be true, but our human nature still allows us to become overwhelmed at times. This current year is a prime example; pandemic, politics, racial injustice, and riots. No one has been exempt! But there is a cure that can be administered, sometimes even proactively, being kind to others in word and deed. Yes, I realize there is a pandemic, and folks are fearful, but honestly, isn't this when we all most need to hear a kind word? If you are in self-quartine, use this time to reach out to friends and neighbors. If you are going out, greet everyone you meet with a word of encouragement, or show a random act of kindness.
God, we give thanks for kind words from others when we most need them. Please help us to show kindness to others at all times. Let our words and actions reflect your love through us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings!
Pastor Tim
Who is the Spirit moving me to show kindness to today? What random act of kindness can I do for that person?
