"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." Revelation 3:20 NIV
Have you ever gone to a friend's home and rang the doorbell and got no answer? There are cars outside, lights on inside, and you hear the TV playing--maybe the doorbell does not work, so we knock on the door. Still no answer. Perhaps they are in the basement or cannot hear us knocking over the noise. Now we knock louder and possibly call out a hello. Still receiving no response, we turn away, our response requests ignored.
The beautiful thing about Jesus is he doesn't give up; he is persistent and ever hopeful. He stands on our doorsteps knocking and calling, not only to those who do not yet know him but to us, his followers as well. He desires to come in and spend time with us. To enter into our homes and share and commune as only two friends can. We only need to listen for his knock and open the door.
Precious loving and persistent God, we give you thanks for your faithfulness. You do not turn away but seek to spend intimate time with us. We confess we become distracted and do not recognize you are calling. Please forgive us and make us more attentive to your voice. Make our hearts ever willing to give you entrance. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
