The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. - Proverbs 1:7 NIV
Like David, his father, Solomon, worshipped the God of Abraham. In his many sacrifices, he demonstrated his honor and respect for the Lord. When asked in a dream what he desired, he replied with a request for wisdom to lead. God granted his plea, and scripture says, "From all nations people came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom." 1 Kings 4:34 Looking back later, Solomon writes the exhortation so the following generations could benefit from his knowledge. His legacy message, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”
If we could change one word in Solomon's instruction, we might replace knowledge with everything. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of everything." In all things, show honor and respect to the Lord. By acknowledging the primacy of God in our lives in all things and obeying his commandments, we demonstrate great wisdom. What better legacy can we leave behind?
God, we come before you now fully aware of your awesomeness. We acknowledge that you are the Lord of everything. We recognize that while unworthy, we are benefactors of your continual grace. Father, help us remember that you are the primary source in our lives and demonstrate your goodness to others. May our legacy be of your glory. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
