Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. John 7:38 NIV
Our family home in Indiana sat on top of a steep hill. Down the hill and across the gravel road, the ground continued to descend into a deep ravine. At the bottom was a creek bed. In the Spring, or immediately after heavy rain, the creek banks would swell, and the water rush down into Monroe Lake. At other times it would dry up to a trickle, looking quite lifeless.
When we accept Christ, the dry bed of our spiritual lives becomes filled with life-giving waters. These waters nourish our souls, giving us faith and hope. When we feel spiritually dehydrated, we only need to draw upon them to feel renewed and refreshed. The sources of these living waters are scripture, meditation, and prayer. We keep the waters flowing; without them, the river can dry to a trickle.
God, we give thanks for your living waters within us. Please help us draw upon them today so we become refreshed and renewed. Let us be mindful of the spiritual care needed to keep these waters flowing freely. In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
