Love Imitators

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. - John 15:12 NIV

Love is great! Whether we are talking about romantic love, friends, or even love of something, like a pet. Biologically, our bodies naturally create chemicals that create those feelings of pleasure. Emotionally, we just feel good when we think of those we love, and we long to spend time with them. But we all know that human love is imperfect. It isn't always wine and roses, but there are falling outs, breakups, and divorces.

The only way we can experience true love is through Jesus Christ. We need to be in a relationship with the only sinless person that ever existed to know the feeling of pure love. Put another way, to understand how to love others; we need to be imitators of Christ. We can't imitate what we haven't experienced.

Where human love often has unwritten rules and self-serving conditions, Christ's love is unconditional. No strings attached. Whenever we may make mistakes, and we all do, Christ continues to love us. He offers forgiveness! Christ's love extends beyond race, gender, orientation, and class. He loves all! He even loves the people who don't know of him yet. He waits patiently, arms extended!

God, we give you thanks for the gift of love. We especially give thanks for your Son, Jesus Christ, who taught us how we should love. But, we confess, we often love imperfectly. Please forgive us, and help us to love with the openness of Jesus. Help us to carry this message to others who have not yet experienced the pure love of Christ. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
