Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. - Psalms 34:8 NIV
How many remember Mikey from the Life cereal ads in the '70s? Mikey's older brothers (they were his actual brothers), convinced they won't like healthy Life cereal, use Mikey as a guinea pig because "He won't eat it. He hates everything." They are surprised when Mikey digs in with gusto, " He likes it!"
Like Mikey's brothers, folks are convinced they won't like a relationship with God before even giving it a taste. There are too many rules; they need to give up too much; it's too hard. However, once they taste it, they discover they like it. All those things that once were obstacles no longer matter.
God, we give thanks for all grace. We have tasted you and know you are good. We rejoice in your presence. You surround us with your love, offer us your compassion and strength, and extend your forgiveness. God, help us to share the message of your righteousness with others. May our lives be a light to all those we encounter. May they come to taste and be surprised by your goodness. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
