Morning Rituals

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

Psalms 143:8 NIV

Most of us have morning rituals. Not necessarily the religious kind, but things we do every morning. If you have children or pets, they may force some of our routines. For years it was waking the boys and getting them off to school; in recent years, that has been replaced with feeding the cats and letting out the dogs, followed by that delicious nectar called coffee. Then I can move on with my day.

David shares with us how he started his morning -- in conversation with God. We can imagine the King in his private chambers, reading the Torah, and praying. In his prayer, he gives thanks for God's love and asking for guidance for the day. He puts his trust entirely in God, accepting and obeying God's direction.

In starting our day in conversation with God, we give him a primary place in our lives. We begin by giving him thanks for all he has done and all he will do. Like David, we also ask him to show us the way. Praying for his direction in each challenge and opportunity the new day brings.

Almighty God, we give thanks for your love, compassion, and guidance. We ask for your direction for this day and place our full trust in you. May all that we do today be for your glory. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings!

Pastor Tim
