If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13 NIV
It is hardcoded within us to love our children. We desire only good things for them and give freely and, when asked for something, we often have trouble saying no. Even people who do despicable things, sinning against God and others, will still give good gifts to their children.
Our heavenly Father is abundant in his giving, beginning with the gift of the Holy Spirit to all who would ask. When we accept Christ as our Savior, we come as redeemed children to the Father. As his children, we can ask for anything, “And this is the boldness we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him.“ (1 John 5:14-15)
Often though, we are hesitant to ask. We may consider it inconsequential or are ashamed, but our Abba, our Papa, does not place limits around what we ask as long as it is for good and according to his will. So, whatever is troubling us today, give thanks and pray. Ask for help; our Father is listening.
Compassionate Triune God, we give you thanks for all your good gifts. We thank you for the love of the Father, the salvation through Jesus Christ, and our advocate, the Holy Spirit. We bring our prayers before you in complete confidence that you will listen and answer. We seek for your will to be done in all these things. Amen.
Shalom,
Pastor Tim
