Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. - Psalms 42:11 NIV
Have you ever heard someone say they are going to their happy place? It's that special memory or physical location we go to when we need a temporary escape. Anywhere that gives us joy and a reprieve from the daily grind.
While it may be a new expression, the idea is ancient. The author of this verse felt the same way, exhausted and blue; they were looking for relief in their happy place, their hope in God. He is our happy place too. So when we feel sad, we need only look to God of infinite compassion, and soon our burdens lessen, and we can experience peace.
God, of our happy place, we just want to thank you. We lift our voices in praise, for you are our Savior. In you, we find compassion, peace, and joy. Bless us today and help us remember your mercies. Amen.
