Ownership

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Psalms 24:1 NIV

In our society, we place much value on who owns things. We have titles for our vehicles and deeds for our homes, establishing our ownership. We have possession and use, but we don't own them until our mortgage and car loans are paid. It is a loan.

We need to remember, God has generously loaned us the earth and all its resources but it, and we, are his creations. As stewards, we have been given a special responsibility to treat all of this with respect and loving care. But, unfortunately, we have acted too often as if we own the earth. Not only that, but we have been bad owners treating these marvelous gifts with abuse and neglect.

Gracious God, we give you thanks for all your creation. We confess we have not cared for your earth as we should. Forgive us; we pray and help us be mindful of the world and your people, treating them with respect and love. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
