"The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him." Proverbs 23:24 NIV
Regardless of our age, if we have children, we never stop being a parent. We want the very best for them and never stop thinking about their physical, emotional, and spiritual welfare. We desire them to exercise wisdom in all things and to lead pure and honest lives. When we see them exercise these attributes, it makes us happy.
God must feel the same way. When we strive to live righteously, he must rejoice because we are taking his word and the example of Jesus to heart. We are demonstrating the working of the Holy Spirit within us. As his children, we desire his approval, and we want to make him happy. We hope to hear these words paraphrased from Matthew 3:17, “This is my child, whom I love; with them, I am well pleased.”
Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for your unconditional love. Please help us to be wise and to live righteously. We desire to be the children that make you rejoice. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
