"You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." Luke 12:40 NIV
"Class put away your books, and get out your pencil and paper." Those words have struck fear in many school pupils. It meant one thing, a pop quiz. Yikes! What is she going to ask? Am I prepared?
Jesus is coming back! Like a pop quiz, we don't know when, but it will happen, and we must be prepared. There will be no time for last-minute cramming. That's it; books are closed—time to take out the pencil and paper.
Also, like the pop quiz, we know how to prepare. In school, if we'd done the reading and listened to the lectures, we did not need to fear. Preparing for Jesus' return is no different; if we've accepted Christ as our Lord and lived according to his word, we can live free of anxiety.
Gracious God, we thank you for your plan of salvation and your word. Through the blood of Jesus, we are redeemed; by the divine scriptures, we are informed; and by the Holy Spirit, we are led. We confess it is only by your grace we have been given these gifts to prepare us for the day of Christ's return. Therefore, in our preparedness, let us look forward to that day with joy instead of anxiety. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
