Pray, Trust, Testify

O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. Psalms 105:1 NRSV

As Christians, we know what it means to be saved. Although not necessarily in this order, we accept Christ as our Lord, are baptized, and are filled with the Holy Spirit. The order, how this occurs, and what it means may differ by denomination, but we all agree these are necessary.

We agree this is only the beginning of our relationship with Christ. It's like a baby taking steps; it's the beginning of many steps to follow. To mature, we must do certain things. Today's verse encourages us to pray, trust, and testify– the basics.

Prayer is essential to our growth because it is a conversation with God. Like in a human relationship, talking and listening is the best way to get to know the other person. In these conversations, we give thanks and recognize all God has done. But we also share everything–and I mean everything, our joys, anger, hurt, and disappointments.

By calling on him, we demonstrate our trust. Why would we call on something in which we didn't believe? We wouldn't! But in belief, we invoke Christ's name, knowing He hears us and will answer.

Lastly, we are called to share with others what God has done for us. Compelled by the Holy Spirit, we share our stories of deliverance and the message of hope he offers others. We share because of our love for Christ and others.

Father, we thank you for all you do for us. Especially, we give thanks for sending your Son, our Savior, and the Holy Spirit. Help us today to continue to grow in you. May our words of praise be acceptable, our hearts demonstrate our trust, and our actions for your glory. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
