Pursue and Find

Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.
Proverbs 21:21 NIV
Have you ever noticed how events follow our actions? There is a natural order to things. Not always, but usually good things follow good actions, and bad things follow bad actions. I know that is simplistic, but usually, it's true.
Today's verse reminds us that what we "pursue" we "find." If we pursue the wrong things or fail to pursue them at all, we are very likely to be disappointed in what we find. But when we seek the right things, we will be rewarded, and this is why. Righteousness and love are both attributes of God, and the only way we can pursue them is through him. It doesn't mean we are perfect and don't make mistakes; of course, we do, but we have God's help when we falter in the pursuit. Here is the win. In the seeking, we find life, a better life now and in the eternal—prosperity, perhaps not worldly riches but the wealth of heaven. The honor, maybe it will be the respect of others, but more importantly, the glory of Christ.
Gracious God, thank you for the invitation to all and your promise. You invite "whoever," an invitation that excludes no one. Lord, help us as we pursue righteousness and love. Open our eyes to seeing, our ears for listening, and our hearts to obedience; that what we seek, we will find. Grant us the promise of life, prosperity, and honor found through our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
