"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4 NIV
Each week in church, as concerns are raised, the wars and places of unrest around the world are mentioned. I confess I grow weary of praying for peace. Not that the prayers aren't needed, and I know that God has a plan, but the fact remains—we are still praying for the end of the destructive actions of man. The old order spoken of in today's verse lingers, even as we long for its passing.
Revelation 21:4 is a promise of complete renewal—of a world freed from pain and sorrow. But does this mean we wait passively for that day to arrive? No. Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" We are already called to step into this renewal, to shed the ways of brokenness and live as people of God’s coming kingdom. This transformation starts within us, shaping our hearts, our choices, and our impact on the world.
What does it look like to live in the new order today? It means choosing hope over despair, grace over bitterness, and action over complacency. It means being a peacemaker in the midst of conflict, an advocate for justice in the face of wrongdoing, and a bearer of Christ’s love in a world that desperately needs redemption.
As we put away the old order, we also prepare for the coming of Christ, ensuring our hearts are ready to welcome Him, not just someday, but now. Scripture repeatedly urges us to stay watchful and ready, living faithfully in anticipation of that day. Just as Jesus taught about vigilance and Paul encouraged believers to remain steadfast, we too must actively engage in His work, shaping our lives to reflect the kingdom He is bringing.
Today, seek one way to embody the future God has promised, knowing that your small steps of faith are part of His greater restoration.
Lord, you are making all things new. Help us to let go of the old order and live in the hope of your coming kingdom. Strengthen our hearts, guide our steps, and prepare us to welcome you with faith and love. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
