Setting Direction

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6

In a study by Leigh University psychology professor Raymond Bell, he states that 70 percent of inmates come from broken homes. Further, he says, "80 percent of inmates are learning disabled, 50 percent are illiterate and 70 percent have no vocational training." The study applies only to the incarcerated, but I think it's fair to conclude similar statistics would be found for the free US population. In large part, the US has failed to "Start children off on the way they should go."

The cautionary verse from today promises us that there is hope. Families, schools, and yes, churches can reclaim responsibility. When we raise our children with the knowledge of God and impart them with morals, we will see changes. They will remember the importance of these things throughout life -- the best legacy we can give them.

Gracious Father, we give you thanks for our children. Please help us as individuals and institutions to raise the coming generations to know you. Let the lessons we teach impart what it means to live righteously. Cleanse our souls and make us good examples. Help us as we carry your message of hope to all who have been neglected. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
