Silver City Galleria

Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you. - Isaiah 54:10 NIV

Driving down Route 24 the other day, I noticed a sign for the Silver City Galleria in Taunton still stands, although the mall itself has been razed. The mall existed for only 28 years; now it’s gone. Before that, it was farmland, and before that, acres of unblemished forest filled with New England wildlife. Everything around us changes, and well-known landmarks become distant memories.

Today’s verse reminds us there’s one thing that never changes, God’s love for us. Although all of the earth may shift and become transformed, and tumultuous things happen in our lives, we have this promise of peace from heaven. God’s love is unfailing; that ideal alone is mind-blowing. Yet, despite the stupid stuff we sometimes do, God continues to love us. Not to say, he may not shake his head in disbelief, but he loves us as a good parent loves their children.

We are in a covenantal relationship with God; he offers love, compassion, and everlasting peace. On our side of this bond, we are to remain faithful, live justly, walk humbly, and return his love with praise and worship. It seems like a pretty, good deal for us, right?

Gracious God of all good gifts, we thank you for your unfailing love, peace, and compassion. Though all the world around us changes, you are constant. We confess we often fail; we do not love you as we should, love you as we should, and praise you as we should. Father, please forgive us, and help us as we walk humbly before you. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
