Singing in the Face of Fear

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord, God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”

Isaiah 12:2 ESV

When we hear the word salvation, we often think about the spiritual freedom gained through Christ. That's good. That is one of the basic tenets of our faith. In thinking of salvation more broadly, though, it is about deliverance. We all can recall countless times God has provided physical, emotional, and mental deliverance. One of the most common things that God saves us from are our anxieties.

Satan loves to tell us our situation is impossible. Fear is one of his greatest tools, and he knows which buttons to push to use it to its the most crippling effect. We need to look no further than this past year to find examples of his handy work. As Christians, we know Satan's efforts pale compared to our mighty God. By placing our trust in Him, we have the assurance He will deliver us once again. Isaiah says not only will God give us the strength we require, but we will want to sing!

Compassionate and loving God, we give you thanks for your salvation. For the hope of life, eternal found through Jesus Christ and your deliverance in our everyday lives. We know we only need to trust, and you will give us the strength we need to conquer all our fears. Forgive us those times when we have faltered in our faith. Please help us as we share the promise found in you with others. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim

Can you remember a time when you could sing in the face of fear?
