Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18 NRSV
You have probably noticed the newer safety measures on automobiles. There are alerts whenever we begin to drift in our lanes. Some cars automatically slow whenever you get too close to another vehicle. More recently, the industry has introduced cars with autopilot. All these things are results of our tendency to drive while distracted; phone calls, texting, radio, etc. Unfortunately, we have forgotten the lesson driven into us as young operators to remain alert at all times when behind the wheel.
This same vigilance also applies to our prayer life. From the time we rise in the morning until we toddle off to bed at night, we need to remain connected to God. In this attitude of prayer, we can navigate all of the distractions that arise during the day, the potholes, the endless road construction, and life's other drivers. But, conversely, when we lose focus, our ability to operate in righteousness becomes impaired.
Do I mean we need to say prayers endlessly from dawn to dusk? Of course not; however, we can constantly be in an attitude of prayer. Begin each day thank God for his grace and asking for guidance. At day's end, thank him for his intercessions. Throughout the day, reflect on his goodness and seek his will in everything, especially those distractions.
Heavenly Father of all grace, we thank you for allowing us another day. Help us to remain alert today as we go into the world. Give us the strength and peace to manage every distraction. Let our lives be examples of Christ so that others may recognize your light within us, and may everything we say and do reflect your glory. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
