Strength and Dignity

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”— Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)

On this International Women’s Day, it feels only right that our verse highlights the character and strength of one woman. Proverbs 31 may come from a different time and culture, and not every description fits neatly into our world today, yet its heart still speaks clearly. It honors a woman whose life reflects courage, wisdom, faithfulness, and a quiet confidence rooted in God. Those qualities are timeless.

I am thankful for the godly women of our church — not just our local congregation, but the universal church across time. Whenever something needs doing, they are the first to step forward—whether it’s preparing a meal, organizing a ministry event, praying over someone in crisis, or simply showing up with steady, dependable love and enthusiasm.

Their strength is not loud, but it is unmistakable. Their dignity is not about status, but about the way they carry themselves as beloved daughters of God. They live out Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6, doing their good works quietly, without the need to be seen, trusting that their Father, who sees in secret, delights in their faithfulness.

Their quiet faithfulness reminds me of one of our dear saints who passed last year at 102. Whenever hardship came, she would smile and say, “When bad things happen in life, you can either laugh or cry—I choose to laugh.” Her words weren’t naïve; they were born from a century of storms weathered with faith. She lived Proverbs 31:25 in real time—clothed with strength, wrapped in dignity, and able to face tomorrow with a holy kind of joy.

I remember also my own mother and grandmother, and the roles they played in our family and in the church—advocates for Christ, prayer warriors, women whose faith shaped generations. Many of you carry that same mantle today. You bless our congregation with wisdom, compassion, and a faith that has endured and still stands strong.

Today, we honor you, women of God. We give thanks for the ways you reflect God’s strength and dignity in our community. And we pray that you continue to “laugh at the days to come,” not because the road is simple, but because God is faithful and your lives are anchored in Him.

Holy God, thank you for the women who have clothed themselves in your strength and dignity. Bless those who lead, serve, pray, teach, and love with such grace. May they feel honored today, and may we learn from their example. Amen.

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Tim
