From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the Lord is to be praised. Psalms 113:3
This Psalm begins, "Praise the Lord ! Praise, O servants of the Lord; praise the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time on and forevermore." (Ps 1-2) All of us who are followers of Jesus Christ are to give praise from the time the sun rises in the East until it sets in the West—starting from this point right now through eternity.
Wow, I don't know about you, but I feel like I fall way short. Oh, I'm pretty good at asking God for things, but I fall short in the thanks department. Not just expressing gratitude for his blessings, but simple praise for who God is and His plan for all of creation. When I ponder this, I feel small and insignificant. Is my praise even noticed? The answer, of course, is yes. The same God who knew me before I was born, sent his Son to redeem me, and fills me with his Holy Spirit, recognizes me.
Almighty loving, compassionate, righteous, and just God, we give you thanks and praise. You are the mighty creator of all things. When we falter and fall, you provide us with the strength to press on. When we ache, you provide comfort and healing. When there is no justice, we find justice in you. When we stumbled In the dark, you sent us the light of your Son. Through the Holy Spirit, you walk with us each day. Precious Lord, we give thanks this day and all days, from the sun’s rising each morning to its setting in the evening. Praise the Lord! Amen.
