In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalms 4:8 NIV
Nothing is quite as beautiful as holding a sleeping baby in your arms. They feel love, comfort, and security in your embrace. You can see this in their innocent faces as they slumber in peaceful rest, dreaming sweet baby dreams.
We all slept like that once. However, as we grow older, we experience more trouble sleeping. Changes in our physical bodies and mental stress can be causes. Or perhaps something that happened that day, or worries, keeps us awake and causes us to sleep fitfully. Whatever the reasons, the youthful deep uninterrupted, peaceful sleep seems gone forever.
King David also experienced things that could have kept him awake. Constant threats to his life, leadership, and nation. Despite all this, he would sleep in peace, secure in the knowledge that God's safety. would keep him safe. God offers that same peace to us today. While we may not experience the undisturbed sleep of babes, we can experience the security found in Christ.
God, our compassionate Parent, you surround us with your peace and safety. You welcome us to rest as we turn the events of the day and our worries over to you. In you, we have nothing to fear. In you, we find comfort and security in your arms as you look lovingly upon our faces like babes. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
