Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good, pleasing, and perfect. Romans 12:2
I have always been fascinated by creative people, perhaps because I don't possess those skills. I have noticed that good artists can ape the techniques of other artists to create reproductions. While skilled, and certainly more than I can do, this does not fully reflect their gifts and potential. Great artists use their skills to create something never seen before.
When we accept Christ, he doesn't want us to be copiers of the art but to transform us into great artists. We should not be satisfied with being just good enough to get by. In copying the ways of the world, we are copying its flaws. By freeing ourselves to God's will, he selects the canvas and guides us to create a masterpiece that glorifies him.
God of Creation, please free us from our contentedness of simply being good; instead, give us the desire to be your great artists. Help us to show your love and goodness in new and different ways to people who need to see your beauty. Guide our minds and hands in the brushstrokes to create what is good, pleasing, and perfect. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
