For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. - Hebrews 9:24 NIV
Secretly, I have always wanted a red 1964 Mustang convertible. Deep down, I know it's impractical, but practicality doesn't keep me from still desiring it. However, I always bring reason into play, ending up with a car that can sit out in the elements, gets better gas mileage, and is less expensive to repair. In other words, I settle for something less than what I desire.
Christ could have gone into the Temple and picked up with the old duties of the priest. He could have continued to offer animal sacrifices for our sins. While that served its purpose, he came to do something new. He didn't settle but offered Himself as the sacrifice and entered not into an inferior sanctuary made by man, but the place created by his Father and serves as our intercessor. None of this did he do for himself, but from his pure love for us. In Christ, we don't need to settle but can have the best.
God, we give thanks for your Son and his willing sacrifice. He entered into your heavenly kingdom for us, completing your plan of salvation. We no longer need to offer animal sacrifices for the atonement of sin, for he did that for all by shedding his blood. Please bless us this day as we share your message of love with others. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
